Eleanor Thornton, M.S., CHES, AE-C
Eleanor (Ellie) Thornton, M.S., CHES, AE-C, is the President and CEO of Visionary Consulting Partners, LLC. She serves as a consultant/advisor for various governmental and private sector organizations. Her bachelor of science degree is in respiratory therapy from Georgia State University and her master of science degree is in health promotion management from Marymount University. She is certified in both health and asthma education, with 30 years of experience providing healthcare-related services.
Ellie provides consultation on comprehensive and innovative community outreach strategies, advocacy, partnership building and the implementation and dissemination of the asthma counselor/case management intervention model. She also has extensive experience developing health promotion/education programs for both children and adults from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds and has expertise in the management and counseling of inner-city families with asthma. She is active in establishing networks and partnerships with community organizations to promote optimal asthma management and access to affordable quality asthma care. She has done advocacy work at both the national and the local level.
Prior to establishing her consulting services, Ellie served as Research and Health Services Administrator and Asthma Counselor at the Howard University College of Medicine. During her nine-year tenure, she was involved in inner-city asthma research and established the office of community outreach for asthma care. The office’s numerous services included comprehensive free asthma medical care, asthma counseling and support services for uninsured adults in the metropolitan D.C. area.
Ellie also served as Director of Education and Community Services at the Allergy and Asthma Network Mothers of Asthmatics and is currently a co-investigator in the post-Katrina collaborative research project Head-off Environmental Asthma in Louisiana, conducted by Tulane University and the New Orleans Department of Health.
